Let a scenic rail excursion take you from a historic depot through the beautiful countryside of Western North Carolina. Choose from a variety of train excursions and special event trains which will take you through mountain ranges, gorges, and beside breathtaking lakes.


Nantahala Gorge Excursion
-- Take a ride alongside the beautiful Nantahala River. This four-and-a-half hour excursion carries you 44 miles to the Nantahala Gorge and back again. Enjoy Bluegrass music and Appalachian stories while traveling along the Tennessee and Nantahala Rivers. The historic Trellis Bridge takes you across Fontana Lake and into the beautiful Nantahala Gorge. Arrive at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) for a one-hour layover where you can relax by the river or enjoy sight-seeing.

Tuckasegee River Excursion - Enjoy a relaxing ride through quiet country-side on your way to small town life in WNC on the Tuckasegee River Excursion. Departing from Bryson City, this four hour excursion travels 32 miles round-trip to Dillsboro and back to the Bryson City depot. Pass by the infamous movie set of The Fugitive starring Harrison Ford! This general excursion trip includes an hour-and-a-half layover in the historic town of Dillsboro, where you’ll find more than fifty shops, restaurants, bed and breakfasts and country Inns. There is time to shop, snack, and visit the many unique shops before returning to Bryson City.

Finish Your Day with Dinner at J Arthur's Restaurant in Maggie Valley

A day in Maggie Valley isn't complete until you spend time at J. Arthur's with locals and other tourists. Since 1986 this world-famous restaurant has served up some of the finest food in the South.

Start with a tasty appetizer -- choose from jumbo shrimp cocktail, buffalo wings, homemade French onion soup, award-winning cheese sticks, Carolina cheese fries, or J. Arthur's popular onion rings.

A few favorite entrees include prime rib, steaks, bass, shrimp and grits, salmon, ribs, and slow roasted meatloaf. Also on the menu is lobster tails or Surf and Turf. From the grill, you can select from pork sandwich, burger, Philly cheese steak, chicken strips, fish and chips, or a combo plate with fried shrimp, cheese sticks, ribs, and wings. A kid's menu aims to please even the pickiest of eaters.
